Marisa De Castro was born in Athens. She studied Sciences of Education and Literature for Children and Young People at the Sorbonne University. She taught History and Literature at primary schools.
She has also written non-fiction books for children, on history and art, and has translated literature for young people and adults. Since 1998, she has written book reviews for children's and young adult books in print and electronic media. She is a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society, the IBBY-Greek Children's Book Circle and the editorial board of the online literary magazine O ANAGNOSTIS. Her books have received various Greek and international awards, such as the National Award for a Children’s Non- Fiction Book (2005, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024), the IBBY – Greek Children's Book Circle Non-fiction Book Prize (2012, 2017, 2021, 2025), the IBBY - Greek Children's Book Circle Young People's Book Translation Award (2025) and the Translation Award of the Hellenic Society of Literary Translators (2014). She was included in the 2016 IBBY Roll of Honour for the Greek translation of the young adult book Wonder. Books she has authored were included in the White Ravens 2017 and 2019 catalogue of the International Youth Library of Munich.
